Sheep in My Blood
By Cameron McMaster

"Sheep In My Blood is a personal account of Cameron's career as a Sheepman.  While wild flowers and bulb growing have been his lifelong hobby and passion, his professional career was as a Sheep and Wool Consultant and primarily as the Breed Director of the Dohne Merino Breed Society in South Africa, a post he occupied from 1970 to the year 2000.  During this time he was responsible for guiding the Dohne Merino and its breeders to a level where the sheep breed became internationally acclaimed as the quintessential dual-purpose Merino, producing both elite fine wool and prime slaughter lambs. Because of his innovative approach to sheep breeding and the success of the breed for which he was responsible, Cameron was an invited speaker at numerous international sheep conferences.

After the Dohne Merino sheep breed became established in Australia in 1998, he was engaged by the Australian Dohne Breeder's Association as a consultant.  During regular visits to Australia from 2002 to 2007 he held workshops and promotional days, teaching and advising Dohne rambreeders, commercial woolgrowers and professional sheep classers how to make the most of their breeding enterprises.

Sheep In by Blood traces Cameron's career from a small child on the family farm, through years of  fascinating experimental work with new and innovative breeding systems.  The book covers his experiences during visits to many parts of the world and his relationship with sheep personalities on a very wide front.  It is illustrated with many photographs, some of historic importance,  of sheep and personalities with whom he was involved throughout his career.

Sheep in My blood was published by the Australian Dohne Breeders' Association (ADBA) who considered it to be important reading for its members.  It is prefaced by a foreword by David Kain, President of ADBA.  In his foreword he states "I have read 'Sheep In My Blood', several times and found it enthralling reading. A must read for all Dohne breeders and everyone interested in sheep breeding".  It will also be fascinating reading for all those interested in the other side of a man who is known to most bulb growers and has addressed many gatherings of bulb growers at various venues in the UK, North America and Australia.
