Middledrift is the McMaster family farm situated in the Cathcart district of the Eastern Cape. Average annual summer rainfal is 400-500mm and at an altitude of 1500m, severe frosts occur during the dry winters. The vegetation is grassland with thorn trees (Acacia karoo) in the river valleys. There is a strong population of the Cycad, Encephalartos frederici-guilielmi, and recently a new Ceropegia was discovered on the farm and named after Cameron - Ceropegia macmasteri.
